Sandro Galea will leave the Boston University School of Public Health to launch a new public health school Washington University in St. Louis.
Publications
Rita Hamad published an article in Pediatrics, “Neighborhood Disadvantage and Birth Outcomes Among Refugees.” Authors found that refugee women assigned to better-advantaged neighborhoods had improved birth weights and decreased preterm birth. (October 24, 2024)
Shannon Monnat‘s brief, “Suicide Rates are Lower in Places with More Social Infrastructure,” was one of the Lerner Center’s most-downloaded in 2024.
Emily Dore and Rita Hamad are published in Current Epidemiology Reports, “Methods Used to Evaluate the Health Effects of Social Policies: A Systematic Review.” (November 22, 2024)
News & Highlights
Audrey Dorelien joined the University of Washington Department of Sociology and Center for Studies in Demography and Ecology this summer. She also presented a workshop at the Gerontological Society of America Annual Scientific Meeting, “Climate Change and Aging” on November 12, 2024.
Michael D. Green received an award from NIH Aging to continue his research and training, including post-doctoral funding to establish a research program. His project title: Assessing the Impact of Discrimination in Healthcare on the Cardiovascular and Cognitive Health (August 26, 2024)
Research by Jennifer Karas Montez is cited in the 2025 Economic Report of the President. (White House link was removed after inauguration.) (January 10, 2025)
