Kammi Schmeer, MS, MA, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology. Her research focuses on social inequalities, family contexts and population health across settings. Dr. Schmeer uses mainly survey data collection tools and quantitative statistical to test research questions about how family contexts are associated with health and health disparities. Read moreShe also studies how exposure to adverse social conditions become biologically embedded in individuals over time, with a focus on women and children in vulnerable families in the U.S. and in low-income countries. Dr. Schmeer is currently PI of an NIH-funded study assessing adverse family exposures, stress and health among women and adolescents in Nicaragua, and co-I on an NIH-funded 5-year longitudinal study of caregiver stress, child health and development among low-income mothers with young children.
