Angie Fagerlin

Dr. Fagerlin is the inaugural chair of the Department of Population Health Sciences at the University of Utah School of Medicine, and a Jon M. Huntsman Presidential Endowed Chair. She is also a research scientist Salt Lake City VA Informatics Decision-Enhancement and Analytic Sciences (IDEAS) Center for Innovation.

Dr. Fagerlin is the Director of the Driving out Diabetes Initiative which is an interdisciplinary initiative aimed at reducing the burden of diabetes in the state of Utah and throughout the Intermountain West.

She is internationally renowned for her research in shared decision making. Her focus is on determining the optimal methods for communicating the risks and benefits of treatment and eliciting patient values. She tests these methods within the context of decision support interventions. Her research has been funded by NIH, NCI, VA, PCORI, the American Heart Association, and the European Union.
