Announcing Our First Pre-Conference Workshop
IAPHS StaffWe’re pleased to announce our first pre-conference workshop on October 1, 2019, 9:30 am – 5:00 pm at the Seattle Sheraton: “Traversing Divides: Interdisciplinary Research in Population Health and Health Disparities.” The IAPHS conference starts the following day, October 2, 2019.
This workshop is especially geared toward early career scientists, but individuals at all career stages are welcome. Activities will include group exercises and case studies that focus on combining knowledge, theory, and methods from diverse fields in order to understand and address health disparities.
Applications are open now to scientists training or working in a field that contributes knowledge at at least one analysis level (molecular to societal and environmental) relevant to understanding health disparity causes or ways to ameliorate them. Students must have at least two years of post-baccalaureate training.
Apply here by May 5, 2019. Attendance is limited to facilitate small-group activities. Applicants will be notified by the end of June. Limited funds to defray travel costs may be available.
Thank you to the Academic Population Health Leaders Working Group for their lead in planning this workshop. The Working Group is led by Dr. Marc Gourevitch (NYU Langone Health) and Dr. William Tierney (Dell Medical School, UT Austin.)
We’re grateful to the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities and by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for their support of this workshop.
All comments will be reviewed and posted if substantive and of general interest to IAPHS readers.
